What is a CP42 Certificate?

It is a law requirement to have a CP42 certificate issued every 12 months for your catering equipment. Failure to have one may result in prosecution under regulation 35 and invalidate your insurance policy.

When Do You Need a CP42 Certificate?
The CP42 certificate is given for gas safety. It is issued annually by a registered gas safe engineer to cover all gas installation and appliances in commercial kitchen facilities. Any business with a commercial kitchen that has any type of gas appliances is required to have their equipment inspected and certified by a gas safe engineer once a year
Whether the appliances are natural gas or LPG it doesn't matter, the insurance convers will depend on whether you have a current CP42 gas safety certificate.
How Do I Know If I Need One ?
If you have any form of commercial kitchen, which uses any form of gas (either LPG or natural gas), then the answer is YES - you do need a CP42 certificate.
The CP42 certificate is in fact legal requirement for commercial kitchen facilities. Failure to have a valid certificate in place may result in prosecution under Regulation 35 of the gas Safety (installation and use) Regulation. The Safety at Work Act of 1971 also states that you have a duty of care to your workers so it is really is important that a valid certificate is in place to ensure that safety of your customers and property so if you have any doubt, it is always better to be safe and sorry.
It is normally the duct of the business owner and or leaseholder of the premises to ensure the CP42 certificate is in place or up to date, so if you are unsure it is always better to check to ensure this is the case.
What if the engineer finds a fault or there is a problem? Don't worry
The gas engineer will inform you and arrange for any repairs needed, this may cost you additional charge depending on what the issue is.
